iReader 1.3 is out!

iReader 1.3 is now available from official Chrome extension gallery.

What’s new?

• Multi-page articles are now supported (issue#7).
iReader will detect if the article is broken up into multiple pages, and then retrieve and display them automatically while you’re reading the first page.


• Added “Enable/Disable Images” control button (issue#28).

• Added “Article Info” section to the end of the printout (issue#36).

  • Website name and favicon.
  • Link of the article.
  • Short link of the article.
  • QR code.

• Displays page numbers in printout (for multi-page articles) (issue#12).

• Added new options

  • Enable/Disable hotkey.
  • New 3 fonts: Cambria, Segoe UI, and Book Antiqua.

• Improvements in the detection and cleaning algorithms.

• Fixed a bunch of bugs.


You can try the new version by installing iReader again, or you can wait until Chrome auto-updates its extensions.

    This is great news – I was hoping for an update that adds pagination. Thanks!

    One thing, though: Please don’t pop up foreground tabs while the browser’s user is trying to concentrate on a complex text. It’s really annoying.

    i used to have a bug that would make iReader pop up everytime i hit the ‘p’ when i was writing a comment on any blog and apparentely it’s been solved! Good job guys and thank you so much! btw what @Alberto said was:

    “God, everything is wrong now
    It doesn’t work on blogger nor ‘elpais.com’
    i’m not longer trying it”

    Yeah, a “Send to Instapaper” option as recommended by Ayman would be great.

    Thankyou for adding two main features I wanted: support for Multi-page and links to source of article. Please keep improving it. Thanks.
    Working fine with Chrome stable on Ubuntu Linux, and Chrome also updated the extension autmatically with no problem.

    Hey, one thing, for some reason it doesn’t show me the website’s info and favicon and link… nothing… do i have to enable that option? :S

    Your iReader is great, but I just noticed it
    automatically popping up a tab with
    http://www.samabox.com/blog/2010/07/ireader-1-3-is-out/
    loaded and then switching to that tab. I find this
    manner of taking control of the browser rather
    distracting, and to be frank, downright offensive.

    Is there some way to turn this off?

    @Luis It appears only on the printout, did you try to print the page?

    @John You’re right, I’ve already turned it off, and will find a better way for informing users of new features in upcoming versions.

    Here is a small annoyance (I would not call it a bug). Once we activate iReader the PageDown key does not work, although the cursor down does work. In order for the PageDown to work I have to click anywhere on the page. I am using Win 7 and Chrome 5.0.375.99.

    Unele articole, ştiri sunt destul de greu citite la rezoluția 1920×1080 şi de fiecare dată să setez zoom-ul tot nu vreau, ba sare un meniu sau o imagine dispare etc. Pentru rezolvarea problemei date am găsit o extensie  foarte utilă, îi zice iRead…

    我觉得中国的用户很难使用上，要跑到个别的网站才能开启着一共功能，还有字体的背景是白色的，很不利于长时间观看，希望弄个保护眼睛的颜色

    I am a Chinese user, I like it, but it seems to support only the English font, may I ask, can he supported the Chinese fonts?
